James Butts Jr.

Former Riverhead resident James Butts Jr. died Nov. 25 at his Mastic Beach home. He was 42.

He was born Oct. 7, 1971, in Riverhead to James and Barbara (Pierce) Butts and worked as a warehouse manager for MCN Distributors in Riverhead. Family members said he loved bowling, golf, basketball and visiting casinos.

Mr. Butts is survived by his fiancée, Laverne Oliver; his children, Terrell McMillion of Riverhead and Jayquan DelValle of Mastic Beach; his mother, stepson, Devonte Atkins, sister, Laronda, and brother, Carl Pierce, all of Mastic Beach; and his father, of Riverhead.

The family received visitors Nov. 29 at Riverhead’s Galilee Church of God in Christ, where a funeral service took place Nov. 30. Interment was at Riverhead Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
