Sherwood Bernard Goldstein

Sherwood Bernard (Woody) Goldstein of Eastport passed into his eternal rest at home on Dec. 31. He was 76.

Sherwood (Woody) Goldstein

Woody grew up in Eastport and obtained his bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. After college he returned home and worked for many years at Goldstein’s Department Store in Eastport, then worked for more than 30 years as a senior court clerk for the Suffolk County Court system, retiring in 2002.

Sherwood was an active member of the Eastport Fire Department for 55 years, serving for many of them as secretary and treasurer. He also served as a board member for Temple Israel of Riverhead, which he loved and supported in many ways over the years.

His great love of all sports, which included traveling to many Super Bowls, was central to his life, as were his giving and loving ways. He was a champion table tennis player and co-authored a book about the sport.

Woody was a loving brother to Esther and Robert Printz of New Hyde Park and a devoted uncle to Karen and Mark Wolfson of Wellesley, Mass., Stacey and Pat Mignone of Massapequa Park and Josh and Alison Printz of New Hyde Park. His great capacity for love also extended to his grandnieces and -nephews, Emily, Aaron, Jacob, Lauren, Giancarlo and Hannah, as well as to his godsons, Matthew Mainzer and Jason Gajowski. He will be sorely missed.

Donations in his memory may be made to Temple Israel of Riverhead, the Eastport Fire Department or East End Hospice.
