William H.G. Barnett

William H.G. Barnett of Southold died at his home Jan. 24, 2014. He was 75.

He was born in Port Jefferson July 25, 1938, to Louis and Elizabeth Barnett. A graduate of The Stony Brook School, he attended Adelphi University and graduated from Penn State.

A resident of Southold for the past 20 years, he previously lived in East Hampton for 40 years and was a high school math teacher with the East Hampton School District for 30 years.

He was a member of First Presbyterian churches in East Hampton and Southold and served as a church elder.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey (née Newton), whom he married Jan. 1, 1960, in Stony Brook; four children, Timothy Barnett of Atlanta, Ga., Toby Marienfeld of Sag Harbor, Shannon DiGate of East Hampton and Megan Anderson of Trumbull, Conn.; his siblings, Robert and Joanne Barnett; and grandchildren Emilie Barnett, William Barnett, Wyatt Barnett, Mariah Marienfeld, Jackson Marienfeld, Cooper Marienfeld, Hannah DiGate, Cameron DiGate, Cole Smith, Ellie Smith and Grant Smith.

Memorial services were held Jan. 27 at First Presbyterian Church of East Hampton, the Rev. Dr. Peter Kelley officiating.

Memorial donations to East End Hospice, Southampton Ambulance or First Presbyterian Church of Southold would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes.
