Leslie H. Corwin Jr.

Leslie H. Corwin Jr. of Mattituck died Jan. 23, 2014. He was 86.

He was born in Aquebogue Feb. 5, 1927, to Marie and Leslie Corwin Sr. and was a graduate of Riverhead High School. On Feb. 26, 1993, he married Karen V. Kelley in Mattituck.

Les was a farmer and general manager of Long Island Cauliflower Association for more than 20 years. He was chief executive officer of the association until his retirement in 1993.

He joined Jamesport Fire Department in 1964 and was a fire commissioner for five years. An avid hunter and member of the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club, he also belonged to Old Steeple Community Church in Aquebogue.

Les was predeceased by his sister Doris. Surviving are his wife, Karen; his children, Phil, Florence and Debbie, all of Florida, Tim, of Riverhead, and Leslie III, of Bridgehampton; his sister Jane of Florida; six grandchildren, including Adam, the eldest, to whom Les was very close; two step-grandchildren; and a favorite nephew, Gary, of North Carolina, and niece, Susan, of Florida.

The family received visitors Jan. 25 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where members of the Jamesport Fire Department paid respects to their comrade. Interment took place Jan. 27 at Aquebogue Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club in Calverton would be appreciated.
