To the Editor:

How cold was cold? Well I will tell you. The month of January 2014 had an average temperature of 26.9 degrees, a very cold fact when compared with January 2013, which had an average temperature of 32.3 degrees.

In 2013, the high temperature of 57 degrees was recorded on Jan. 20 and a low temperature was recorded on Jan. 23 of 11 degrees. The total snowfall was 2.84 inches. This January a high temperature of 53 degrees was recorded on Jan. 6 and 11. A low temperature of 1 degrees was recorded on Jan. 4, with a snowfall of 15.87 inches.

January 2014 was 5.4 degrees colder than January 2013.

As to the rest of the winter, I expect to see this pattern continue.
