SUFFOLK COUNTY CLASS A SEMIFINAL | TORNADOES 58, WILDCATS 46

Shoreham-Wading River made top-seeded Harborfields sweat for most of the game, but fell short in pulling off a major upset in a Suffolk County Class A girls basketball semifinal on Wednesday night.

The No. 4 Wildcats dropped a 58-46 decision in Greenlawn.

Junior Courtney Clasen paced Shoreham (11-7) with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.

After the Tornadoes (18-0) scored the first 7 points of the game, the Wildcats went on a 20-3 tear the rest of the opening quarter to grab a stunning 20-10 lead. They led at halftime, 29-28, before senior guard Toni Deren (11 points) sank a 3-point shot to give the hosts a 31-29 lead they would not relinquish 25 seconds into the second half.

Forward Donasja Scott led Harborfields with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Kristen Kelly added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Allie Tunick turned in 10 points and 5 assists.

Harborfields will meet No. 2 Elwood/John Glenn in the final on Saturday night at St. Joseph’s College.
