The Riverhead Lions Club will hold its annual St. Patrick’s Day corn beef and cabbage dinner Saturday, March 15, at 6 p.m. at the Riverhead Polish Hall. Tickets can be purchased at Barth’s Drug Store (727-2125), Peter Danowski’s law firm (727-4900), or at Markowitz, Fenelon & Bank (727-3626). The Lions Club, which is seeking new members, meets at Digger’s Pub the first Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m.

Riverhead High School seniors Stephanie Falisi and Ceaser Chabla-Sarmiento were honored as students of the month by the Rotary Club of Riverhead Feb. 12. Both students are actively involved in many community service activities and both deserve this honor. They were selected by their guidance departments and were invited to attend a Rotary luncheon as guests of the club. At the luncheon, they were introduced to Rotary members and were each presented with a certificate of achievement. Congratulations to these community- and civic-minded students.

All are welcome to attend an Ash Wednesday service March 5 at 7 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Riverhead on Main Street in downtown Riverhead. Sandy Gruner invites you to join them as they begin the holy season of Lent.

Old Steeple Community Church on Main Road in Aquebogue will host a Soup Supper on Sunday, March 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. Check the calendar of events for more information.

Riverhead Free Library will host “Senior Visions” on Friday, March 7, and Thursday, April 3, at 1:30 p.m. Seniors are invited to one or both of these informal meetings to share their suggestions for future programs and services. Registration is not required. Also, the library has added a new senior outreach program, which started in January. For more information call Laura LaSita at 727-3228. Last but not least “Singles Times” will be held March 5 and April 2 from 1 to 2 p.m. Singles will have a chance to meet new people and plan activities together. You are encouraged to bring snacks. There is lots going on at our local library. Be sure to stop in and pick up a copy of the Riverhead Newsletter, which lists the many programs available for all age groups.

My heart is heavy this week as I lost my dear cousin Diane, with whom I grew up and shared both good and bad times. I will cherish the memories of our time together and will always think of her when I make my sour cream nut coffee cake, for which she gave me the recipe when I was only 7 years old. May she rest in peace.
