Neighborhood News: Alley Cat Thrift Shop charity drive

I’ve heard rumors of snowdrop and crocus sightings. I don’t have any yet but I will investigate these rumors. I did, however, smell some peonies and lilacs last week — in a flower shop — and, oh boy, did they smell good!

If you shop at Stop and Shop, please inquire how you can help Riley Avenue Elementary students earn money for the school. The offer ends on March 28 so stop by and see what you can do.

Speaking of Riley students, congratulations to Genevieve Burell, who wrote an awesome poem titled “Rainbow.” We are all very proud of you, honey, and hope to see more of your beautiful writings.

Are you ready for some pasta? Me too! Riverhead Rotary Club’s annual spaghetti lunch and dinner will take place March 12 at the Riverhead Polish Hall. Lunch will be served from noon to 2 p.m. and dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Tom from Farm Country Kitchen is involved in the cooking this year and I’ve been told it’s gonna be better than ever. It’s always delicious, so do go! Adult lunch is $10; seniors, $8; and children, $6. Dinner prices cost $2 more for everyone. Great prices for a great cause, and you don’t have to cook. Takeout will be available. Enjoy!

Riverhead Lions Club will hold its corned beef and cabbage dinner on Saturday, March 15, also at the Polish Hall. The cost of this amazing dinner is $22 for adults, $18 for seniors and $14 for children 10 and under. For details call Barth’s at 727-2125 or Peter Danowski at 727-4900. Cabin fever is coming to an end. Have fun!

My friends at the Alley Cat Thrift Shop would like everyone to know that all profits from the shop support the daily operations of the church and also help the church to help the community. This week all coats, jackets and sweaters are half price as they get ready for spring. If I were you I’d go. Winter is not over yet. Get something toasty to wear.

Here’s some hope — we “spring” ahead this weekend. That means we can shovel later in the day. Sorry, I had to tease you.

Take care, be safe and I shall talk to you next time. Bye.
