Lacrosse: SWR grad scores twice against Stony Brook

Shoreham-Wading River graduate Tim Rotanz (20) made his college debut Saturday for the University of Maryland in the Terrapins’ 11-8 win over Stony Brook.

Shoreham-Wading River graduate Tim Rotanz, who led the Wildcats to back-to-back Long Island championships in 2012-13, returned to Long Island for the first time Saturday as a member of the University of Maryland.

Rotanz scored a pair of goals in the No. 1 ranked Terrapins’ 11-8 win over Stony Brook University before a crowd of 2,964 at LaValle Stadium.

It was the first game of the season for Rotanz, a freshman, as Maryland improved to 5-0 this season. His two goals came 17 seconds apart in the second quarter. Maryland led 8-2 at halftime and 9-3 after the third quarter. Stony Brook fell to 2-3.

Riverhead graduate Ryan Bitzer, a freshman for Stony Brook, did not register a point in the game, but he has one goal and an assist through the team’s first five games.
