Riverhead News: ‘Jesus Alive’ concert at United Methodist Church

Riverhead United Methodist Church will host a “Jesus Alive” concert Saturday, March 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. Come enjoy a wonderful evening of entertainment with performances by renowned Christian singer Frank Rendo, the Jesus Alive dancers and Pastor Enrique Lebron and his wife, Isa.

All proceeds (freewill offerings) will go to Jesus Alive, an organization that raises funds to help the homeless and hungry on Long Island. Please bring a nonperishable food item to donate. The Riverhead Clergy Council will once again hold Lenten services on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. First Congregational Church of Riverhead will host on March 19; Riverhead United Methodist Church, March 26; St. John the Evangelist, April 2; and Old Steeple Community Church, April 9. The teens at Riverhead Free Library have been quite busy. “Teen Tech Week,” March 9-15, showcases a MakerBot 3D printer for library patrons. Mr. Rienzo worked with the teens on DARPA technology for those interested in robotics, engineering, computer science and other fields. March is National Youth Art month. The Friends of the Library hosted an art reception last week but you can see the artwork of local teens through March 27 at the Elizabeth Overton Gallery. Students in grades five through eight are encouraged to participate in the Pokémon Club on Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m. On Monday, March 17, at 5 p.m. there’ll be bunnies galore to hold (preregistration required). And finally, the program “So You Want to be a Vet?” will be held March 31 at 4 p.m. for those interested in a veterinary career.

Don’t forget to visit the chicks! Eggs will arrive at the library March 25 and are expected to hatch April 14-19!

The Inishfree School of Irish Dance, under the direction of Sean Reagan of Jamesport, will perform at the annual Riverhead Lions Club St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, to be held Saturday, March 15, at 6 p.m. (dancers to perform approximately 6:30) at Riverhead Polish Hall. They will also perform at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church in Wading River at its St. Patrick’s party to be held from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. (dancers to perform approximately 8:30).

The 12th annual Breakfast of Stars, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Riverhead, will be held Saturday, April 5, at 9 a.m. at the Riverhead Moose Lodge. Tickets for the buffet breakfast are $25. Call Harry Wilkinson at 463-5811 for tickets or reservations. This year the stars of the community are individuals who inspire our youth: James Banks, Conrad Dabrowski, Evelyn Hobson, James (Butch) Langhorne, Deb Rodgers and Bruce Young. CVS drugstore will also be honored at the event for its dedication and assistance to the community.
