To the editor:

In regard to the Game of Hamlets article in last week’s edition, once again the hamlet of Flanders is forgotten.

Our ZIP code is 11901 (we get mail through Riverhead post office). We pay Riverhead School District taxes, and we shop, bank, work, and use Riverhead doctors, dentists, etc. But not once are we included in the hamlet survey. Our Little League team is now in Riverhead, and we have a beautiful park here for that purpose.

I am assuming we are a hamlet, since we are not a town, a district, a village or a park, or anything that I can think of at the moment. We consider ourselves a hamlet of Riverhead, not Southampton, because of all of the above.

The only thing we can be sure of from Southampton is our tax bill. But we are the home of the Big Duck, which is a historic landmark.

One point for Flanders!
