Girls Lacrosse: Brodeur helps Riverhead engineer comeback

BLUE WAVES 6, BULLDOGS 5

The Riverhead High School girls lacrosse team pulled off a rare close road win on Thursday afternoon.

Junior attackman Sam Brodeur scored twice within a 3-minute 55-second span during the second half to anchor a three-goal rally that turned a two-goal deficit into a 6-5 Suffolk County Division I win over host Lindenhurst.

Senior goaltender Paige Hubbard was outstanding, making 14 saves, including several during the final minutes while the Blue Waves (1-2, 1-1) held off the Bulldogs (0-2, 0-2).

Brodeur sandwiched her goals at 12:40 and 16:35 around teammate and sophomore midfielder Courtney Troyan’s goal at 14:36, which transformed a 5-3 hole into a 6-5 advantage.

Freshman attackman Aly Romer added two goals, one in each half. Senior midfielder Carolyn Carrera had given Riverhead a 1-0 lead 59 seconds into the game.
