Hello, everyone! I hope you had a great couple of weeks. We’ve had some nice weather thrown in but this really has been the winter that just won’t quit. I’m looking forward to spending my mornings reading a book and drinking my tea on the deck but it’s still just a little too cold for that. Cross your fingers that these 20- to 30-degree morning temperatures end soon because I’m just about done with being cold.

The Friends of the Big Duck’s annual Easter Duck Egg Hunt will be held this Saturday, April 12, at the Big Duck Ranch at 11 a.m. The rain date is April 13. Children ages 2-9 are welcome to this free event. Please bring an Easter basket to collect your goodies. There will be a visit from the Easter Bunny and light refreshments will be served.

The Friends of the Big Duck’s annual Spring Fair will be held May 17 (rain date: May 18) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors are needed for the following: crafts, face painting, tattoos, food, etc. Printable applications can be downloaded from their website, bigduck.org, or by calling 727-0593. Applications are also available at the Big Duck. Stop by and say hello.

Happy birthday wishes go out to the following friends and family this week: Meredith Halpin and former Riverhead resident Ralph Brown, who still comes home every year to hang with his peeps here, April 8; Herb Loper, Maureen Zebroski and Tammy Tocci on the 9th; my sister-in-law Kim Zaleski on the 11th; everyone’s son, Spencer Shea, on the 13th; Dr. Roger Lao and Laura Levasseur on the 16th; Amanda Makson on the 19th (OMG, I remember the day you were born!), Flanders Fire Department Chief Joe Pettit on the 20th; and Donna Gordon on the 21st. I hope everyone has a wonderful day, doing whatever it is that makes them happiest!

That is all for this week. It’s been pretty quiet on the news front here lately so why not send me an email or give me a call with any news you’d like to share with the community. I hope to hear from you soon. Please drive slowly and don’t text or talk on your cell phone while driving. Not only are the kids out playing but I’ve also seen the ice cream man making his rounds, which means the children are usually running toward it. Thank you and I’ll see you around the neighborhood.
