Cops: Flanders man arrested for robbing woman in parking lot
A Flanders man was arrested Thursday in connection with a reported “strong-arm robbery” of a 26-year-old woman, according to a Southampton Town police press release.
Walter Mims IV, 28, initiated a verbal dispute with the victim — whom police said he knew — on March 21 around 7 p.m. over money, officials said.
The incident took place in the parking lot of the Cumberland Farms Mobil Gas Station located on County Road 39 in Southampton, officials said.
“[Mr. Mims] then forcibly stole her cell phone before fleeing the area in a maroon colored vehicle in an unknown direction,” the press release states.
He was charged with a felony robbery charge and held for arraignment, officials said.
Mr. Mims was also arrested Feb. 21 on felony drug charges, according to reports.
