Three women injured, one airlifted, following crash in Calverton
A T-bone collision in Calverton sent three women to local hospitals, with one woman being airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center “as a precaution,” police at the scene said.
The crash happened about 1:50 p.m. when a van driving across Nugent Drive onto Pinehurst Boulevard crashed into a sedan headed north, Suffolk County police said. The sedan swerved off the road and over a road sign at the intersection before crashing into a bush.
Flanders, Riverhead and Manorville ambulance teams were called to the scene, and Riverhead firefighters closed the road. The driver of the van and the passenger in the sedan were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment, police and fire officials said.
The driver of the sedan suffered a rib injury and was airlifted to Stony Brook; none of the victims’ injuries were serious, said a police officer at the site of the crash.
The road was reopened about 2:45 p.m.
