OK, when will it get warmer? I mean, 67 degrees? We finally planted the peas but I think most everyone is a little bit behind in the growing department. Patience is indeed a virtue!

Kent Animal Shelter on River Road in Calverton is holding a free rabies vaccination clinic Sunday, May 4, from 10 to 1 p.m. to help celebrate “Be Kind to Animals” week. Advance registration is necessary. Flea and tick products will also be available at a discount. Even if you don’t need to attend the clinic, you can still stop by to shop. Donations of dry and canned dog and cat food would be appreciated. Also, a new best friend just might be waiting for you there. Just sayin’! Fore more information and to register, call 727-5731, ext. 2.

Congratulations to Steve Gallagher, one of 11 Long Island chefs recently chosen as an all-star chef by Newsday. Steve is the son-in-law of Patti and Rowland Hautsch (Patti is my coworker and friend!). Steve and his wife, Jessica, own The Trattoria in St. James, which has received rave reviews. Congratulations to all of you! Awesome job, Steve!

Lots of school news: Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week at Riley. Let your child’s teacher know just how much you appreciate them. They spend a lot of time with your children teaching them to be smart and amazing. Riverhead Fire Department members will be at the school May 6-9 teaching fire safety, a highly anticipated annual program. May 12 is the fourth-grade concert at 7 p.m. at the high school. Art in Action will take place May 16, also at the high school. I’m telling you, you’ll be amazed at the talent. Thanks to Riley’s awesome art teacher, Melissa Haupt. Field days will be held at the end of May, and May 20 is the district budget vote. Lots of stuff coming up!

Riverhead Polish Hall is hosting a Mother’s Day breakfast Sunday, May 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, kielbasa, bacon, sausage, rolls, orange juice and fruit salad will be served. The food is always delicious. Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Reservations are recommended. Call 727-9200. Enjoy!

Happy birthday to Gail Kappenberg and Wayne Rambo on May 9 from all your family and friends. We hope you both have a wonderful birthday!

To all the moms, grandmas, aunties, stepmoms and moms of pets, I wish you all a wonderful Mother’s Day. May it be fi lled with love, happiness and incredible memories.

Till next time, be safe and I shall talk to you soon. Take care, bye.
