REDMEN 13, BLUE WAVES 1 (6 INNINGS)

The Riverhead High School softball team could not solve freshman Courtney Greene on Monday afternoon.

The East Islip left-hander was virtually unhittable in the opening five innings as the hosts recorded a 13-1 Suffolk County League III win.

Greene allowed only two hits in the first five innings before surrendering three hits and a run in the sixth in a game that was called by the mercy rule in the sixth.

Senior third baseman Stephanie Falisi rapped out three hits for the Blue Waves (6-11, 6-11). Karla Vanston had a run-scoring single. Sarah Freeborn had Riverhead’s other hit.

Heather Zenk went 3 for 4 with a single, double, triple and three runs batted in for East Islip (12-5, 12-5); her RBI double in the sixth ended the game.

Danielle Drywa added two doubles and two RBI and Emelia Churpita drove in two runs.
