Riverhead School District

Meet your Riverhead school board candidates

TKIMBERLY Ligon (Incumbent)

Ms. Ligon, a 1985 Riverhead High School graduate, said she decided to run for re-election to look for ways the district can “downsize or get rid of unnecessary things” in order to keep the tax levy increase under the cap without cutting programs or staff.

“We were fortunate enough to do that this year, but next year will be more challenging,” she said. “I feel that all children should be able to get the best education possible and my goal as a board member is to see that they do.”

Ms. Ligon, 47, was first elected to the school board in 2011. The Riverhead native has two children enrolled in the district, a third-grader and an eighth-grader, and works as a recreation therapist at Peconic Bay Medical Center, where she’s been employed for over 25 years.

Ms. Ligon also volunteers at First Baptist Church.
