The family and friends of Demitri Hampton, a local college student who was killed in a botched home invasion in Flanders more than a year ago, are holding a fish fry dinner to help raise funds for his memorial scholarship fund this Saturday.

The event is the second fundraiser for the scholarship, and follows a successful basketball tournament held last year.

“We had some good feedback,” said Jamal Davis, Mr. Hampton’s brother. “People have been donating. Hopefully Saturday is a nice day and people will come out.”

The DQH Scholarship was given to two graduating Riverhead High School students last year who were planning to attend Suffolk County Community College, just as Demitri had done. Mr. Davis said they expect to choose this year’s scholarship winners in the next few weeks.

The event will include basketball games and a 50/50 raffle and will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at Stotzky Park.
