Health Beat: Free stroke support group at PBMC

Southold Fire Department will host a New York Blood Center blood drive Wednesday, May 28, from 2:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the Main Road firehouse. Those who donate after 5 p.m. can enjoy a free spaghetti dinner. 

• Peconic Bay Medical Center will host a free stroke support group Friday, May 30, 11 a.m. to noon, in second-floor conference room C. Learn stroke warning signs, understand stroke’s effects, find out what can be done to maximize recovery and independence, ask questions and share information and experiences. • Eldercare specialist and pharmacologist Dr. Lawrence Millman will give a free presentation, ‘Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Medications,’ on Friday, May 30, at 4 p.m. at the Peconic Landing Community Center in Greenport. He will discuss the safe use of prescription and over-the-counter drugs, herbals and supplements; possible interactions; timing and duration; and costs. A Q&A will follow.
