UPDATE (May 24): An 82-year-old woman involved in a two-car accident in Jamesport Friday died from her injuries, a Stony Brook University Medical Center spokesman confirmed. Marjorie Case of Aquebogue was driving a 2010 Lexus east on Main Road when she lost control of her car and crashed into a Honda minivan.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Massachusetts man and his three sons are expected to be transferred to Stony Brook University hospital after being injured in Friday morning’s serious two-car accident in Jamesport, Riverhead police said.

The other driver in the crash is also being treated at the hospital for “serious injuries,” while the mother of the three boys is recuperating after undergoing treatment in Riverhead, according to a police statement.

Police said 82-year-old Marjorie Case of Aquebogue was driving a 2010 Lexus east on Main Road when she lost control of the car around a turn and drifted into the oncoming lane, smashing into a Honda minivan driven by 47-year-old Thomas Devlin of Massachusetts.

Fire Departments from across the East End responded to the scene, including Jamesport, Riverhead, Mattituck, Southold and Cutchogue. Firefighters cut open the Lexus door and cut off the roof of the minivan to reach victims trapped inside.

Flanders-Northampton and Riverhead ambulance volunteers also assisted.

Ms. Case was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center and later transfered to Stony Brook University hospital with “serious injuries,” according to a police statement.

Mr. Devlin, his wife Mairead, and the couple’s three sons  — ages 7, 11, and 13 — were all taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

The couple’s three children who were injured were “alert” at the scene, said Riverhead police Lt. David Lessard.

A woman from Mattituck driving behind the minivan said she pulled over after the accident to try to assist. The woman — a nurse who gave her name as Diane — said the man and woman in the minivan told her that they just had just gotten off the ferry and were headed to a baseball tournament.

A Jamesport man said he heard the crash while in his garden nearly a mile away.

The stretch of Main Road opened to traffic about 2:30 p.m. after a three-hour accident investigation. New York State police has since taken over the investigation; no arrests are expected at this time, police said.
