Health Beat: Riverhead F.D. hosting blood drive June 3

• Riverhead Fire Department will host a community blood drive Tuesday, June 3, from 1 to 7 p.m. in the upstairs banquet room of the Roanoke Avenue firehouse. Donors age 16 to 75 who weigh at least 110 pounds and have not received any tattoos in the past 12 months are eligible. Please bring a valid photo or signature ID and eat well and drink plenty of fluids before donating. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can be scheduled by calling Lauren at 369-9136.

• San Simeon by the Sound in Greenport continues its Brown Bag Lunch & Lecture Series on Wednesday, June 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a talk by Karen Lee of Sang Lee Farms. In discussing ‘Why Organic?’ Ms. Lee will answer questions about whether organic foods are better, safer and more nutritious for you. The cost is $25 and a brown bag lunch will be provided. • The next discussion in the Senior Wellness Education Series, ‘Ready, Set, Walk!’ — a presentation by Nancy Williams, director of physical therapy at Eastern Long Island Hospital — will take place Friday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to noon at the town senior center at 750 Pacific St. in Mattituck. Older adults, their family, friends and caregivers are welcome. Call 298-4460 for information or to arrange transportation. This ongoing series is presented by ELIH and Southold Town Human Services.
