RECAP: Water ski course coming to Terry’s Creek?

liveblog

The Riverhead Town Board discussed the possibility of creating a slalom water skiing course in Terry’s Creek in Aquebogue at its work session Thursday.

Susan Ulrich, an avid waterskier from Jamesport, said there is no such course in Riverhead, and she has to go upstate or to Sag Harbor for the closest American Water Ski Association course. The board plans to hold a public hearing on the issue, and will likely require water skiers using the proposed course to be AWSA members. The course also would only be open on weekdays. The area being sought for the water skiing course is adjacent to Indian Island Park and is not near homes, although a boat would have to pass homes to get to it.

The board also is planning to adopt a resolution asking Suffolk County to rescind a resolution is passed recently to authorize a lease with LI Abate, a non-profit motorcycle organization, at the Beagle Club property  in Calverton. The resolution might be moot by then, as county officials are already planning to rescind it.

The board also continued its discussion on regulating clothing drop-off bins, although it reached no conclusion.
