Riley Avenue Elementary School second-graders celebrated Flag Day Friday during the 22nd annual Flag Day parade as enthusiastic parents, grandparents and siblings lined the driveway at the school.

A patriotic concert and salute to the American flag followed the parade.

Flag Day is officially today.

The second-graders study the flag as part of their social studies curriculum, which includes studying holidays. Students learned about the symbolism of the stars, stripes and colors.

Students read essays about the flag, which were written in correlation with the Elk’s Lodge Flag Day Essay Concert. The winners read their essays today t the Riverhead Elk’s Lodge celebration.
