The 12th annual Juneteenth Day celebration and picnic was held at Ludlum Park in Riverside Saturday afternoon.

The event, which is sponsored by the East End Voters Coalition, celebrates peace and freedom.

Essay winners Julianne Williams, 10, of Baiting Hollow and Bryan Alvarez, 11, of Riverhead read their entries and the girls from Tijuana Fulford’s Butterfly Effect Project spoke about self-worth.
