Edward J. Schumpf Jr.

Longtime Riverhead resident Edward J. Schumpf Jr. died June 11 of cancer. He was 70. 

He was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Westhampton Beach to Alice and Edward Schumpf Sr. Ms. Schumpf served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and worked for Grumman Aerospace for 18 years. He also worked for Suffolk County Community College.

Family members said Mr. Schumpf enjoyed gardening, traveling and classic cars.

He was predeceased by his siblings Joe, George, Ann, Edwina, and Arthur and is survived by his wife Irene (née Fialkowski) Schumpf; his daughters, Barbara Roberts and Christina Atkinson and their spouses; his brother John (Marie) Schumpf; his sister, Dorothy; his mother-in-law, Irene Fialkowski; his sister-in-law, Barbara Schumpf and four grandchildren.

The family received visitors June 16 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Cremation was private.
