Thanks to my brother-in-law, Ron, who takes care of our family’s technology troubles, I have now returned to using my prior email address (above). Ron has performed CPR on our computer and laptops many times, breathing life into blank screens of death and rescuing us from the evil deeds of cyber hackers. Thank you for the prudent use of your superior intellect, Ron.

Speaking of good guys with superior intellect, Nikola Tesla’s laboratory in Shoreham, the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, will see more progress as funds are raised for the restoration of the property and building. Its most recent progress was a visit in September 2013 by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, who dedicated a statue in Tesla’s honor. For now, the grounds of the former Peerless Photo laboratory have been cleaned up, sodded and flowered. Wading River resident and artist Anna Jurinich forwarded me information that her friend Jane Alcorn stands at the helm of Friends of Science East Inc., which is working to complete the project. Jane wants to educate us about the local vision that will progress with all our help. Matt Inman of the comics website theoatmeal.com has raised $1.2 million — thanks Matt, you’re great! — but the project can only be completed if we all help to raise funds (of any amount). For more info and to donate visit teslasciencecenter.org and click on “Benevity” and “Easy Match.”

The lawn of CVS on Route 25A in Wading River was a wonderful spot to witness the fireworks show above the carnival sponsored by Peconic Bay Medical Center July 2-5. Everyone enjoyed the bursts of color and noise in the night sky, put on by Newton Shows. People squealed with delight as they exercised their slogan, “We’re in business for fun.”

Bob and Jen Gebbia, owners of Palmer’s American Grille in Farmingdale, have joined with Palmer’s executive Anthony Rossi and executive chef John Catalanotto to acquire the restaurant at The Vineyards Golf Club, a Riverhead staple. (Jen also works at the Deli at Wading River.) The three men have been in business together for nine years at Palmer’s. Saturday, Aug. 2, will mark the new restaurant’s grand opening at The Vineyards. Bob and Jen say that it will operate separately from the golf club.

Happy Birthday to Teresa Maca, a colleague of mine at Montauk Bus, who celebrated July 2. Teresa always does an amazing job. Teresa, may your life in 2014-15 be filled with love, abundance and luck.
