RECAP: No speakers at budget hearing; WaterFire grant sought

liveblog

There were no speakers at the Riverhead Town Board’s  public hearing on its 2015 preliminary budget at its meeting Wednesday.

The budget is the same as the one issued by Supervisor Sean Walter at the end of September. It calls for a 2.08 percent tax levy increase, a 0.58 percent tax rate increase and a 1.7 percent spending decrease.

The board is required to hold a public hearing and must adopt a final budget by Nov. 20, according to state law.

The board also voted to apply for a $350,000 Artplace America grant to fund the proposed Waterfire display in the Peconic River.
