After posting the top time in the county at the Section XI Division Championships Oct. 21, Shoreham-Wading River freshman Katherine Lee looked ahead to the team’s future goals.

“We want to try to get to states as a team,” Lee said at Sunken Meadow State Park that day.

Lee and her teammates accomplished that goal by winning the Class B county title Nov. 1. And today, Lee added to what has already been a banner year with her greatest accomplishment yet in her young career: a state title.

Lee ran 18 minutes 45 seconds to finish first in the 5,000-meter course at SUNY Canton to win the Class B individual title. The Wildcats posted a fourth-place finish as a team in Class B.

Lee finished four seconds ahead of Emily MacKay, a junior from Union Endicott in the race that featured 120 runners.

Burnt Hills-Ballston lake won the team championship with five runners finishing in the top 22.

The Wildcats next four runners were sophomore Alexandra Hays (19:56.1), junior Kaitlyn Ohrtman (19:59.1) and eighth-graders Francesca Lilly (20:21.6) and Lexie Smith (21:09.3). Sophomore Amanda Dwyer (22:21.3) and senior Rose Andrews (23:01.1) were the final two non-scoring runners.
