Boys Basketball Preview: The season of big men for Riverhead

Bishop McGann-Mercy will feature a new look this year after the graduation of talented forward Nykel Reese. Mercy coach Mike Clauberg said the Monarchs will rely on KJ Santacroce, who’s coming off a terrific season as quarterback of the football team. At 6-foot-3, Santacroce gives the Monarchs size down low and he can also stretch the floor with his jumper.

“He can play any position,” Clauberg said. “He can shoot from anywhere and is very versatile. He’s one of the better players we’ve had in a long time.”

Joe Jeskie is a returning starter who plays point guard. The Monarchs will look for Jeskie to run the offense. Brothers Ed and Nick Kneski will both have key roles on the team, Clauberg said. Andrew Glasgow, who didn’t play last year because of an injury, is back this year. Reggie Archer is a captain this year. Archer had an all-county football season and will look to take that same determination into basketball.

“He’s very athletic and we’ll look to him to get some boards and play some defense,” Clauberg said. “He’s like every coach’s dream as far as a player in terms of leadership.”

Jasper Bradley, a center, will provide a presence down low.
