A couple hundred people attended the 26th annual Big Duck lighting ceremony Wednesday night in Flanders where many children enjoyed hot chocolate, duck call toys and Santa.

The Riverhead Middle School Show Choir sang holiday songs and the Flanders Fire Department escorted Santa Claus to the stage where he switched on the lights with the help of a group of children.

Lisa Dabrowski, co-curator of the Long Island Duck Farming Exhibit, said she was thankful for clear skies and a large turnout to the event.

“It’s a Long Island tradition,” she said. “It’s a great time to celebrate Long Island’s agricultural history.”
