George James Kurovics

Longtime Jamesport resident George James Kurovics died Jan. 13. He was 90. 

He was born April 19, 1924, in Middle Island to Elizabeth (Ivan) and Bertram Kurovics.

Mr. Kurovics served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1947, achieving the rank of Aviation Botswain’s Mate (Arresting Gear) 1.  He was the longtime owner and operator  of George’s Rocky Point Barber Shop. More can be read about his life here.

Predeceased by his siblings Bert, Bucky, Joe, Steve and Margaret; and a granddaughter and great-grandson; George is survived by his wife, Joyce; his sons George of Jamesport and Lee of Port Jefferson Station; his daughter, Joy Domino of Southold; his daughter, Linda Sue Shropshire of Miller Place; his brother, Jimmy of Virginia and his sister Betty O’Kula-Coughlan; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 19, at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church in Rocky Point, officiated by Father William Breslawski. Interment will take place at Calvertion Natinoal Cemetery. Cremation was Private.
