Margaret Tooker Carstensen

Former Riverhead resident Margaret Tooker Carstensen of Concord, N.C., died Jan. 14 after a brief illness. She was 82. 

She was born in Riverhead on Jan. 12, 1933, to Clyde and Amy Luce Tooker and graduated from Riverhead High School in 1951. Ms. Carstensen graduated from William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y., in 1955 and, soon after college, worked for New York Life. She later worked in the English department at Riverhead High School.

She married Reidar Krag Carstensen in 1957.

Ms. Carstensen moved to Concord, N.C., in 1979 and recently moved into a retirement community in Thomasville, N.C. Family members said she spent every summer in Northville since leaving Riverhead.

In addition to her husband, Ms. Carstensen is survived by her daughter, Debra Goodwin of Exeter, N.H.; her son, Kurt, of New York; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Tooker, and her sister, Elisabeth Tooker.

A memorial service is being planned for summer 2015.
