Spencer G. McNary

Longtime Riverhead resident Spencer G. McNary died Jan. 18. He was 98. 

He was born, Nov. 28, 1916, and married Betty (née Benjamin) in 1947

Mr. McNary served in the U.S. Air Corps with the 509th Atomic Bomb Group. He worked for National Broadcasting Company, from 1935 to 1941 and from 1948 to 1981 as a salesman with I.M. Young Company.

He was a past Grand Knight of Immaculate Conception with Knights of Columbus and a past commander of Riverhead American Legion Post 273.

Predeceased by his wife, Mr. McNary is survived by his daughters, Susan (Wayne) Swiatocha and Kathleen McNary; his grandson, Wayne (Jessica) Swiatocha; and great-grandchildren, Jillian and Reese Swiatocha.

A funeral mass will take place Wednesday, Jan. 21 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Cremation was private.

Arrangements were entrusted to Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead.
