No records were lost during Monday’s fire at the County Center records storage center, the Suffolk County Clerk’s office has confirmed.
“The sprinklers came on almost instantaneously, dousing the fire,” said chief deputy clerk Nicole DeLuca. “So we have wet records, but luckily nothing was lost.”
Riverhead firefighters were called to the Juliette Kinsella Records Storage Center about 12:50 p.m. Monday after the fire broke out on the second floor.
The fire was contained to a small area and brought quickly under control, Riverhead Fire Department Chief Joseph Raynor said.
Three shelves of records, found to be civil court records from 1995, were in the immediate area of the fire, she said.
“The records have now been sent out for remediation,” she said. “They will dry freeze them and send them right back.”
Suffolk County fire marshals are still investigating the cause of the fire, she said.
