Flanders News: Sending thanks for a successful blood drive

As I sit here on Sunday night not really watching the Super Bowl because my team, the Green Bay Packers, isn’t playing, I’m reading all about another winter storm that may hit our area tonight into Monday. I am not happy with this news because I hate winter and being cold, also because it means another few days of driving on icy, slick roads. I’m hoping this storm isn’t as bad as last week’s. I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a shout-out to my neighbor Jim for coming to our rescue last Monday and digging us out. He not only did our driveway but our immediate neighbors’ too. Thanks, Jim. We really appreciate it.

The FFD/FRNCA blood drive committee would like to thank everyone who helped make the January blood drive a success: Neil Young, PSA; the Meetinghouse Deli in Aquebogue for donating the hero; and Leo and fire department members Scott and Joe C. The biggest thanks goes to all those who took the time to help save a life by donating blood. Thank you all!

Belated happy birthday to Lona Muldrow, who celebrated Jan. 31, from your loving family and friends. They hope you had a wonderful day!

Happy birthday to Sharon Spano today, Feb. 5. Happy 20th birthday to my son Michael on Feb. 15. I don’t know how it happened. One minute you were a newborn and the next you’re no longer a teenager but a young man. I’m so proud of you and hope you have a wonderful day. Happy birthday to Barbara Swislosky, one of the powerhouses behind the blood drives, also on the 15th; my nephew Ryan Zaleski, Feb. 16 (Ta-ta loves you very much); and Joyce Podlas, also on the 16th. It must be a slow month for birthdays in the area. If you’d like to shout out birthday wishes to a family member, friend or neighbor, call or email me as soon as possible so that I don’t miss it.

That’s all for this week’s column. I look forward to hearing from you with any news you’d like to share with the community. Please remember that any news you have for me needs to get to me two weeks in advance, especially if it’s for a meeting or social event. If I don’t respond to your call or email it means I didn’t receive it, so please try again. Thanks for reading. Please be safe while driving.
