Two more armed robberies reported in Riverhead Town

The number of robberies reported in Riverhead Town this year grew by two at about 10 p.m. Saturday, and this time weapons were used in both incidents, Riverhead Town Police said.

Five minutes after the Valero Food Mart on Route 25A in Wading River was robbed at gunpoint for the second time in 34 days, a group of youths were approached by an armed man in a dark-colored minivan asking them to empty their pockets on Hinda Boulevard in Riverhead.

The suspect in the latter incident exited the van and chased the youths on foot, catching up to one who had slipped. He stole the youth’s cell phone before taking off in the minivan. He was not caught.

A cell phone was also stolen from the Clerk at Valero who was robbed by two armed suspects — one with a gun, the other a knife — who also took off with cash from the register and packs of cigarettes. Neother of those suspects was apprehended.

Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to call police at 631-727-4500.

At least nine robberies have now been reported in Riverhead Town so far in 2015. Valero was the first business robbed in both January and February. The first incident happened after midnight on a Monday.
