Supervisor declares ‘Winter Storm Event’

Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter issued a Proclamation of Winter Storm Event Saturday afternoon as a snowstorm began to dump as much as eight inches across the area from Saturday night through Sunday morning.

No cars are permitted on either side of any roadway from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Cars that are left in roadways can be impounded, the supervisor said.

With near blizzard conditions overnight, residents are encouraged to avoid travel. The supervisor said highway crews will be working throughout the duration of the storm. Blowing snow will cause whiteout conditions and create limited visibility.

Residents are asked to remove snow from sidewalks in front of their residence or business. But do not shovel snow into the street.
