An SUV car skidded off Sound Avenue around 10:30 and hit a telephone pole near Horton Avenue, sending the car’s passengers to the hospital.

According to police, a Nissan Rogue was heading west on Sound Avenue when it slid off the road. Sound Avenue was closed to traffic while police investigated.

A member of the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps said two passengers were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Riverhead Fire Department responded to the scene to remove the car’s side doors, and Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps sent two ambulances to SBU Hospital.

The road is back open, but police warned that “once that wind hits it, it gets blocked back up again.”
