Eugene W. Kaczynski of Calverton died Feb. 20 at Riverhead Care Center. He was 78.

He was born June 3, 1936, in Maspeth, Queens to Walter and Anna Kaczynski. He married Sandra (Benjamin) Aug. 16, 1958, in Woodside, Queens.

From 1954 to 1958, Mr. Kaczynski served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a supervisor for Con Edison for over 30 years.

Mr. Kaczynski was active in the Loyal Order of Moose in Riverhead and was a past acting administrator, past governor, and past secretary of Moose International. He also made hats and scarves for underprivileged and premature babies.

Family members said he enjoyed cooking, painting on glass and hunting and especially loved watching television and channel surfing.

Mr. Kaczynski is survived by his wife, Sandra; his daughter, Karyn Duarte of Wading River; his sons, Eugene Jr. of Center Moriches and Robert of Islip Terrace; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Feb. 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.
