Riverhead Blotter: Confronted by security, man flees and leaves stolen items

• A man left the Stop & Shop on Route 58 without paying for numerous items Monday at about 7:30 p.m., according to Riverhead Town police. The suspect fled in a black Dodge Dakota, having left the stolen items in the parking lot when he was confronted by store security, who recovered the items, according to police. 

• Someone broke a window at Mae’s Market on Railroad Avenue Monday night. The value of the broken window is about $50, according to police.

• Jairo Martinez-Hernandez, 26, of Riverhead was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlicensed driving and leaving the scene of an accident Feb. 22 at about 1:45 a.m. at the intersection of Roanoke Avenue and Green Tree Road in Riverhead.

• Terrill Latney, 35, of Mastic, was charged with DWI and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance following his arrest Feb. 22 on East Main Street and Howell Avenue in Riverhead.

• A man reported being assaulted by two men on Meadow Lane in Riverhead Sunday about 1:21 p.m. The case is being investigated and no arrests have been made yet, according to police.

• Two men reportedly stole about $2,000 worth of clothing from the Polo Ralph Lauren Women store at Tanger Outlets Saturday at about 6 p.m. The suspects fled the area on foot, police said.

• Two men stole six Nintendo DS units from Toys R’ Us on Route 58 on Sunday at about 7 p.m. Police say the stolen game consoles are worth about $850.

• Two men reportedly stole six DVDs and trash bags from the Route 58 Walmart Friday at about 5 p.m. The items, which police say were valued at $132, were recovered but the suspects were gone by the time officers arrived, according to police.

• Someone damaged the headlights and the driver’s side mirror of a car parked on Railroad Avenue in Riverhead last Thursday about 9 a.m. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at about $350, according to police.
