A Coram man was arrested in Peconic on Sunday after he led police on a pursuit between Riverhead and Southold towns, according to police press releases issued by Riverhead and Southold police departments.

Riverhead Town police attempted pull over Jovan Bailey, 29, during a check point on Main Road in Jamesport at around 3:40 a.m., officials said.

When Mr. Bailey refused to stop, Riverhead police requested assistance from Southold Town police as they pursued him eastbound on Main Road, officials said.

Southold police became involved in the pursuit as Mr. Bailey reached Manor Hill in Cutchogue, officials said.

He was apprehended near police headquarters after officers used stop sticks at the intersection of Route 25 and Peconic Lane to force the vehicle to a halt, police said. He was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, officials said.

Mr. Bailey was charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, second-degree unlawful fleeing, reckless driving, speeding, and possession of a controlled substance, officials said.

Riverhead police took custody of Mr. Bailey and impounded the vehicle he was driving, officials said.
