Riverhead School District security director James Gresham is resigning from the position he’s held for the past six months, according to Tuesday’s school board agenda.

When contacted by a reporter about Mr. Gresham’s resignation, Superintendent Nancy Carney stated in a March 12 email: “Mr. Gresham is an employee of the District. Respecting the confidentiality rights of all employees, we do not discuss personnel issues.”

According to Tuesday’s agenda, Ms. Carney is recommending that the Board of Education approve Mr. Gresham’s resignation, effective April 1.

Mr. Gresham was featured in a March 12 News-Review cover story about the district’s improved security plans in recent years. Ms. Carney is also proposing a 27 percent increase in the district’s security budget next year, up $242,000 over the 2014-2015 school year. Extra security costs in recent years taken by the district include additional video surveillance, identification software, and Mr. Gresham’s salary.

Messages left for Mr. Gresham at the high school earlier this month weren’t returned.
