Wrong-way chase on Rt. 48 ends in DWI charge

A Wading River woman was arrested for driving drunk after she led police on a chase down Route 48 last night, Southold Police said.

According to police, a blue Hyundai was spotted driving eastbound in the westbound lane around 11:30 p.m. and an officer tried to pull the car over using lights and sirens.

The driver ignored police and continued driving in wrong lane, forcing oncoming traffic off the road, according to a press release.

During the pursuit, the driver nearly collided with the marked police car on two separate occasions, police said, though was eventually stopped near the intersection of Cox Lane and Route 48 in Mattituck.

According to police, 54-year-old Marsha Beale failed several roadside sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
