The Riverhead School District announced the Class of 2015’s valedictorian and salutatorian.

Valedictorian Noah Markewitz, whose weighted grade-point average is 108.9, will attend SUNY/Geneseo to study biochemistry and pre-medicine. He is the Vice President of the National Honor Society and was named outstanding student of the year in pre-calculus, physics, AP physics and geometry.

Mr. Markewitz is a member of the Foreign Language National Honor Society and was the outstanding student of the year in Spanish III.

The College Board recognized him as an AP Scholar with Distinction. He is currently enrolled in five AP courses and SUPA economics.

Mr. Markewitz plays three instruments — alto saxophone, piano and clarinet. He sat first chair at the Hamptons Music Educators Association (HMEA) in grades 9-12. He was an alternate to the all-state Music Festival in 11th grade.

Additionally, his Rube Goldberg team placed first when he was a ninth grade and was an all-county scholar athlete in soccer.

He also volunteers as a tutor and is the vice president of the Long Island Science Center Youth Board of Trustees.

“With all the current media attention given to education, I would like to give a shoutout to all the awesome teachers and coaches in the Riverhead School District that have encouraged and inspired me throughout my school career,” Mr. Markewitz said in a statement.
