Joseph S. Forgione

Joseph S. Forgione died April 27 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 80.

He was born June 22, 1934, in Manhattan. He married Rose (née Caira) April 28, 1956, in Bayside, N.Y.

Mr. Forgione served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958. He was a patrolman with New York Police Department and worked as an U.S. Postal Service administrator.

He was a member of the the American Legion in Queens, Riverhead Knights of Columbus, Riverhead Veterans of Foreign Wars and North Fork Italian American Club.

Family members said Mr. Forgione was a history buff, a coin collector a movie critic/buff who also enjoyed playing bocce ball.

He is survived by his wife, Rose, of Riverhead; his children, Joseph, of Massapequa Park, Jana Kolsen of Garden City, and John, of East Setauket; his sister, Dolores Dellapina; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, April 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 1, at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.
