A dispute between two women in a hotel parking lot turned violent Friday afternoon after one of the women struck the other with her car, Riverhead police said.

The victim suffered “serious, but not life-threatening” injuries and was airlifted for treatment, said Sgt. Jonathan Devereaux.

Sgt. Devereaux said the incident occurred about 1:55 p.m. in the back parking lot of Hotel Indigo. Police did not say what caused the dispute or how the woman was struck by the car.

Riverhead ambulance volunteers treated the victim at the scene and later took her to a nearby parking lot to be airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

The driver was taken into custody and may face charges after a state police investigation.

The identities of both women were not immediately released. Sgt. Devereaux said the victim did not work at the hotel. It was unclear if the victim was a guest at the Hotel Indigo or was visiting someone there.
