RECAP: Town Board public hearings set for EPCAL zoning

The Riverhead Town Board Tuesday set a May 20 public hearing on the creation of a new zoning category for the Enterprise Park at Calverton, which would allow industrial, manufacturing, commercial and other principal uses, as well as residential and retail uses in support of those principal uses.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting:

• The board set a May 20 public hearing on a proposal to establish an 8-ton weight limit on Twomey Avenue in Calverton, which officials say is being used by large oil trucks.

• The board filled the last vacancy on the Industrial Development Agency, appointing Lori Ann Pipczynski.

• Board members heard from a commissioner from the Riverhead Fire District , which supports the town’s plan to use false alarm fines to hire a fire inspector, and from a commissioner from the Wading River Fire District, which prefers the board keep its old system of giving 70 percent of that money to local fire districts.

• Board members talked race relations with Trevor Hardin of Riverhead, who said he’s the founder and president of the People Of African Descent International Alliance, a group with more than 13,000 “likes” on Facebook. Mr. Hardin also played a song on his guitar.
