Aquebogue News: One Guitar musical event at Vail-Leavitt Music Hall

Happy May and happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! Young and old, if you have given life and nurtured another human being, biologically and/or creatively, this weekend is for you. Congratulations!

Former JFD Chief Lenard Makowski sent me a very sweet notice about his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Makowski. Peggy recently celebrated her 65th birthday with family members in Disney World. She was joined by her husband and her daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Noel Ramo, as well as by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jessica Makowski. Peggy spent the entire week in Florida with her family and celebrated her special day with dinner at a five-star restaurant. Peggy was a teacher’s aide for over 20 years and has been the organist for Baiting Hollow Congregational Church for over 15 years. Lenny and Peggy have lived in Jamesport for over 43 years. Belated wishes for your special birthday, Peggy, with many more to celebrate.

The Jamesport-South Jamesport Civic Association will host a meeting this Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Jamesport Meeting House. Ms. Nancy Carney, RCSD superintendent of schools, will speak about the proposed 2015-16 school budget. There will also be time to ask questions about the budget proposal and any propositions that may be attached to this year’s school vote.

Following the presentation, school board candidates will pitch their campaign. There will also be time to meet each candidate and ask questions. Light refreshments will be served. The meeting is open to all community members, regardless of where you reside.

Save the date, May 21 at 7 p.m. (it’ll be here before you know it) for Maureen’s Haven’s fundraiser and creative musical event, “One Guitar” at Vail-Leavitt Music Hall in Riverhead. Visit ourredeemerli.com for more details.

Also ahead this month, Living Water Church will host its fourth annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, May 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. under the tent at Living Water Church, located at Hubbard Avenue and Shade Tree Lane. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for children under 12 and seniors ages 62 and over. Takeout will be available. Proceeds will help finance Living Water Church’s free children’s summer camp, to be held from Monday, June 29, to Friday, July 3. For more information, call the church at 722-4969, ext. 204, or visit lwfgc.org.

Cathy and Jim Breitenbach would like to wish Irene Hughes a very happy 89th birthday May 7.

I’d like to end this week’s column by congratulating my daughter, MaryAngela, as she graduates from college this weekend. MaryAngela will be walking with her associates and completing her BA in Communications: Radio and Television with a minor in journalism this fall semester. She is the fifth member of our family to graduate from Franciscan University. Congratulations, MaryAngela! Your human and canine family loves you.
