A couple was injured Sunday afternoon when the motorcycle they were riding on skidded out after they attempted to avoid striking an SUV making a turn off Sound Avenue in Baiting Hollow, Riverhead Town police said.

The pair were riding together with friends just east of Edwards Avenue when another couple stopped to make a left into the Long Island Spirits parking lot shortly before 2 p.m.. As the motorcyclists swerved to avoid the SUV, they hit a patch of gravel from a nearby driveway and lost control of their bike, police said.

The motorcyclists were transported in separate ambulances to Peconic Bay Medical Center. The woman suffered serious lacerations to her face, police said.

No charges were filed in the incident.
